A local man was hit with three different charges after getting into an argument with his ex-wife over a missing dog after crashing into a mailbox.

Nigel L. Hopkins, 30, was arrested Thursday night after police were called to a home on East Airport Drive for a domestic assault with a gun involved. According to the arrest warrant, upon arrival by deputy Brandon Deffendoll, contact was made with Hopkins who was involved in an argument with his ex-wife regarding her dog being missing.

After Hopkins gave deputy Deffendoll consent to search his truck, a pill bottle with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was found inside of a pill bottle in the glove box. A scale and a marijuana grinder were also discovered.

According to a second warrant, a city officer was dispatched to Underwood Road in reference to a property damage hit-and-run accident. A Warren County deputy witnessed a white male wearing a blue ball cap and driving a white Nissan strike a mailbox.

The officer observed the mailbox being broken off at the ground. Hopkins was found on East Airport Lake Road with a 1987 white Nissan truck. The vehicle had damage to the right front fender and light, as well as a flat right front tire, which is consistent with the mailbox accident.

Hopkins was charged with simple possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and leaving the scene of an accident. Hopkins was bonded out of jail that same night.
