Nineteen animals went home for the holidays.
During the month of December, nine dogs and 10 cats were adopted from Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center.
“This is my report for December,” said Animal Control director Sherri Bradley, to members of the county Health and Welfare Committee. “We took in 30 dogs and 33 cats in December and adopted out nine dogs and 10 cats.”
The department continues to work with rescue groups. Last month, 17 dogs and 11 cats were sent to rescues.
“That’s a 75% adoption rate for the month,” said Commissioner Blaine Wilcher.
Bradley replied, “Yes, it is.”
“That’s good,” said Wilcher.
Also during the month:
• Four dogs were returned to their owners
• One cat passed while in veterinary care
• One cat was euthanized after being struck by a vehicle
• On Dec. 31, the facility had 15 cats and 13 dogs
• 348 phone calls were received
• Collected was $1,204 in adoption fees and donations
Some shelters report an abundance of “present” animals after the holidays – animals adopted or purchased in December as a present and surrendered to a shelter in January.
“I know some shelters have that problem, but we normally don’t,” said Bradley. “We may have had a couple last January, but none so far this year. Pet surrenders after the holidays don’t seem to be an issue in Warren County.”
Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center is located at 169 Paws Trail. Serious adoption inquiries, or to report lost or found pets, may call 507-3647.
