There are few ways to close out the dog days of summer more appropriately than with the adoption of your very own canine companion.
Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center (WCACAC) is participating in NBCUniversal Local’s Clear the Shelters fundraiser in an effort to stimulate adoptions and donations for the shelter. Clear the Shelters is a nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign returning this year for its ninth consecutive year.
The campaign began Aug. 1 and is running until Aug. 31 with the shelter to receive the single largest donation between Aug. 14 and Aug. 20 at 10:49 p.m. to receive a $5K grant. The two shelters to receive the highest number of gifts or donations, regardless of size, will also be given $5K grants.
A different donation initiative is announced at the beginning of each week in order to motivate the public to help their favorite shelters.
“This program is always a blessing,” said WCACAC director Sherri Bradley. “We appreciate how much the community responds and helps us as best they can. As the number of cats and dogs in our care rises, so do the vet bills. Every dollar or bag of food helps us, no donation is too small.”
WCACAC is featuring an adoption special for the entire month to encourage adoptions. From Aug. 15 to Aug. 21, fees for dogs are $50 and cats are $30; from Aug. 22 to Aug. 31, the fee will be lowered to $20 for cats and dogs alike.
“Some of our dogs have been here a really long time. They’re all great dogs, they just need to be in a home,” Bradley said. “A kennel is no place for a dog long-term, and some of them are very hyper in their kennels and it puts off adopters. Once they’re out, they are completely different dogs. We’re hopeful that by lowering the adoption fees for Clear the Shelters, some of our longest residents will finally find their forever home.”
Those who wish to donate to WCACAC can do so by going to the fundraiser’s site, cleartheshelters.org, and searching for Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center. From there, a donation amount can be set and paid for online.
To see WCACAC’s list of adoptable cats and dogs, an Adoptapet.com page is set up under its name. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week except for Wednesday and Friday when it is closed to the public.
