Local doctor, his wife, face assault charge

A local doctor and his wife have been bound to the grand jury for allegedly assaulting a woman following an automobile accident downtown on Christmas Day.The physician, Dr. Dannie W. Glover and his wife, Renee Glover, were both bound to the grand jury on a misdemeanor assault charge for allegedly putting their hands on Beverly Meeks during a disagreement over an automobile accident on West Main Street. Special Judge Bratten Cook heard the case during preliminary hearing after Judge Bill Locke recused himself.According to the warrant, sworn against them by Meeks, the accident happened when the Glovers’ Ford Ranger pickup backed out of a parking area and hit her vehicle. Meeks said she was traveling on West Main Street at the time.“I asked ‘What are you doing?’” Meeks recalled saying after getting out of her car following the minor crash.She claims Mr. Glover was immediately aggressive.“He got out of the vehicle and came at me,” Meeks told the judicial commissioner in her sworn statement seeking the assault warrant against the couple.
