While the counting of petition names could run into Friday, election officials believe there will not be enough McMinnville voters to command a liquor or wine referendum on the November ballot. To qualify, both would have had to get signatures of 335 registered city voters since only McMinnville residents could vote on the question. As of Friday morning, the question of wine in grocery stores was about half-way to its target while package liquor was only a third of the way.
