The city’s first responder program continues to spur controversy. One county and one city leader squared off during Tuesday’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.“I just want to talk to my buddy Mr. Woods tonight,” said Ron Lee, who currently serves as a Warren County commissioner and is on the county’s Safety Committee.“It’s Wood,” said Alderman Billy Wood. “If you are going to cuss me, get the name right.”After offering a correction, Lee said he read the remarks made by Wood which were printed in the July 29 edition of the Southern Standard about the county ambulance service and wanted to address comments he felt were out of line.Wood voiced his discontent regarding what he considers “scare tactics” that lives would be lost if the city stops the first responder program, because responders sometimes arrive several minutes before the ambulance service.
