Two men will serve jail time after they reportedly lured a debt collector and robbed him at knife-point.
The defendants, Wesley Maloy and Jackie William Lowery, entered guilty pleas to the charge of theft. More serious charges of felony assault, attempted aggravated robbery, and burglary were dismissed as part of their plea agreement.
Lowery received the most jail time as he was ordered by Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to serve 30 days of an 11-month, 29-day sentence and to make $390 restitution.
Maloy was instructed to serve 14 days of an 11-29 sentence and also make $390 restitution. Both men have been warned to have no contact with the victim in the case.
Their sentences come for an incident last May which happened just outside Mt. Leo near Beersheba Highway.
“I was called and he said he wanted to pay back some money he owed me,” the victim said in swearing out the warrant against Maloy.
The victim said when he went to the pre-arranged meeting place, the debt he was owed was not there.
“He immediately started asking me for pills,” the victim said. “He had prior knowledge that I take pain pills for my shoulder and knees.”
The victim told authorities when he refused to hand over his pills, he was pushed down and two other men got out of the car, one carrying a knife.
“I ran because I was scared,” the victim said, noting he hid until the men left the area.
However, upon returning to his vehicle, the man said he discovered numerous items missing from his car. The stolen items included a 22 rifle, fishing poles and fishing equipment, and his billfold.
The third person was not caught.
