Irving College School needs to stay exactly where it is. That was the consensus held by the majority of attendees at a meeting held at the school Tuesday night.Director of Schools Bobby Cox addressed approximately 85 people in the school gym hoping to put to rest rumors concerning the future of the school, which is beloved by the Irving College community.Cox wanted to conduct a community meeting with parents and citizens to answer questions about possibly renovating the school, as well as other educational issues such as Common Core and the future of TCAP testing.Cox told the audience that closing Irving College School was never the intention of the School Board.He said he had spoken with former Irving College principal and gymnasium namesake Sam Boyd who informed him on the history of the school from 1835 to present day. Cox said the rich history and fondness of the community for their school is a great thing.Cox said he and Boyd discussed which properties might be available close to the present school site.Pat Dunn, a 1969 graduate of Irving College said, “It is not Irving College if it is not here.
