The Warren County Jail is experiencing leaks in the roof and the county is looking to temporarily patch it before eventually getting a new roof.
At the county Building and Grounds Committee meeting Thursday night, the commissioners discussed the leaks at the jail. Maintenance Department director Greg Bowdoin said he went on the jail’s roof and found many holes.
“I got hold of John Porter from Porter Roofing and we went up and he found a lot of holes in the roofing in the areas it was leaking in. He is going to try to address all he can with that and take care of that,” said Bowdoin.
Bowdoin says he believes the roof was put on around 2005.
“I asked (John Porter)about the roof and it is still down fairly tight. He thought it would last at least another three years. I told him we have to keep these leaks under control, but they are hard to find. He’d spot them and they’d be pinhole size. It gets under that rubber roofing and starts going,” said Bowdoin.
The county may have to look into purchasing a new roof in the future. Bowdoin estimates it would costs $400,000 to $500,000. The committee was asked if ESG had anything to do with recent roof repair and Bowdoin said they redid every building’s roof in the county except the jail.
“They never did include the roof,” said Bowdoing. “They had it reseamed.”
The committee suggested having the next meeting at the jail to look into the damage.
