PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — Kosovo prosecutors say they have charged a citizen with participating in terror groups after the person joined fighters from the Islamic State group in Syria.
In a statement Wednesday, prosecutors said the suspect, identified only as A.Gj., became an IS supporter in Germany in 2014 before going to Kosovo. In December 2015, the suspect went to Turkey with a civic organization that the person abandoned, travelling to Syria to join IS's Albanian fighters.
Earlier this year the suspect was arrested when entering Turkey presenting as a Russian. In September, the person was extradited to Kosovo.
The suspect faces a sentence of up to 15 years.
Authorities in Kosovo say no citizen has joined Syrian and Iraqi extremist groups in the last year, although about 70 are active there.
