Horse kick injures child

A 5-year-old girl is recovering from emergency brain surgery after being kicked in the head Saturday afternoon by a horse.The girl, Leah Graves Myers, suffered her injuries Saturday off Jacksboro Road in the Centertown area.According to a family member, Leah was playing in a field when she climbed through a fence into an area where horses are kept. She has been around horses for most of her young life and apparently felt comfortable around them.Leah was kicked in the forehead which caused an extensive amount of bleeding and led to her being airlifted to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. She showed signs of progress Tuesday morning when she said “Daddy” and gave her father a hug when she saw him in her hospital room.
