The Southern Standard is gearing up for our 32nd year of Share A Christmas Dinner, a program that helps ensure everyone in the community has a holiday feast.
Share A Christmas Dinner started in 1981. It’s a community-based program that provides a way for those who are looking forward to a big meal this holiday season to share that joyful anticipation with those less fortunate.
Last year, donations purchased food boxes that were distributed to 625 families. Each food box – packed with a nutritious and complete Christmas meal – costs around $30. To ensure your donation goes to help a family truly in need, the list of families to receive a food box is generated by the Department of Human Services.
Warren County High School’s Interact Club lends a helping hand with distribution. Club members pack the food in assembly line fashion. The boxes include a chicken, dozen eggs, milk, rolls, bread, vegetables, fruit, cake mix, and more.
“We appreciate the continued support of the Interact Club,” said Share organizer Sharon Patrick. “Without people and clubs such as this, we couldn’t do what we do.”
Donations are currently being accepted. They can be dropped off at the newspaper office, or mailed to Southern Standard, attention Share, P.O. Box 150, McMinnville, Tenn., 37111.
