A man must pay a dog owner $300 for allegedly running over and killing his dog on purpose. The intentional killing of an animal case against Jerry Wayne Hendrixson was dismissed with the payment of $300 to the victim. However, separate charges of theft for his stealing of heavy equipment will cost Hendrixson 10 days in jail and restitution to the scrap yard where he took the stolen items. In the case of the theft, sheriff’s investigator Kevin Murphy said Hendrixson and another man stole two, 10-foot forks for a loader and then took the items to Ivy Bluff Salvage where they sold them and received $429 for the stolen property. The arrest on that charge led to the service of warrants dating back to 2008 charging Hendrixson with running down a dog.The victim said he heard a thud and was told by a neighbor Hendrixson had run over his dog. Specifically, the neighbor told the pet owner he saw Hendrixson swerve his car onto the shoulder of the road to intentionally hit the animal, with the impact killing the dog.The dog case was dismissed as part of the plea agreement on the theft charge.
