A man who allegedly stole a vehicle from a car lot faces grand theft auto charges after a tracker on the car led police to his location. The suspect, Erin Hailey Heather, 24, waived his right to a preliminary hearing before General Sessions Judge Larry Ross and was bound to the grand jury on charges of theft over $1,000, reckless endangerment, and evading arrest. His charges come after a 2001 Chevy Malibu disappeared from a car lot on S. Chancery Street. During the investigation, it was revealed the car was equipped with a tracking device which would pinpoint its location. Using that information, police tracked Heather to the Walmart parking lot where it was learned he had been seen trying to attach a license plate to the car.
