A teen recently indicted by the Warren County grand jury for attempting to elude law enforcement in June was allegedly at it again last week.
Jacob Charles Haley, 18, was arrested Friday, Dec. 10, and charged with evading arrest, driving without a license, and reckless endangerment. Haley was indicted by the grand jury in October for evading arrest and driving without a license for a June 3 incident.
On Friday, sheriff’s deputy Clayton Myers, who was riding with deputy Jared Jacobs, reported Haley was witnessed driving a red Honda Civic on Short Mountain Road.
“We pulled out of the parking lot [of Blues Hill Church of Christ] attempting to get behind the vehicle to attempt to run the tag of the red Honda Civic,” said Myers. “We could not catch up to the vehicle to be able to run the tag because the vehicle fled from us doing speeds of up to 95 mph in a 45 mph zone.”
Lights and sirens were initiated.
“We were in pursuit of the vehicle until they tried to turn south onto Barrett Road where he wrecked out in a small field with an old barn,” said Myers.
Haley exited the vehicle and ran. He was located inside the barn and taken into custody by Jacobs.
As for the June 3 incident, Sheriff’s Department investigator Aaron Roberts observed a black sport motorcycle with no license plate traveling on West Green Hill Road at the intersection of Cherry Springs Road. The driver was without a helmet.
“I attempted to perform a traffic stop on the motorcycle with my blue lights and siren, but the driver evaded the traffic stop traveling toward Short Mountain Road at approximately 100 plus mph,” said Roberts. “I lost visual with the motorcycle in the S-turn at Robert Wilson Road and terminated pursuit.”
Less than an hour later, sheriff’s deputy Brystol Davis located a motorcycle off the roadway of Merry Oaks Road at the entrance of a farm field. It, as well as the male driver, matched the descriptions given.
“When I arrived to speak with Haley, he told me he ran because he did not have a license, was not wearing a helmet, and riding an unregistered motorcycle that did not belong to him,” said Roberts.
