A man who threatened to kill his girlfriend with a sawed-off shotgun in front of her children has avoided jail time.The man, Jared Thomas Gum, 20, entered guilty pleas before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to charges of aggravated assault and having a prohibited weapon. He was granted a four-year judicial diversion, meaning he can move to have his criminal record erased so long as he gets into no more trouble while on probation. He is also to have no further contact with the victim, maintain full-time employment, forfeit his shotgun and undergo an alcohol and drug assessment.The victim told lawmen Gum showed her a sawed-off shotgun while they were in her driveway on Chapel Drive, telling her “this is what I’m going to kill you with.”
