The start of school brings new hours of operation at Gilley Pool.
With 21 of the 22 lifeguards being either high school or college students, the pool will be closed during the week after today.
Wellness and Aquatics manager Justin Scott said, “We had six high school students, 13 college students and three who just graduated high school about to enter college who were all lifeguards. Also, of the two office workers, one is a college student and one is a teacher’s assistant. All of our staff is affected by the start of school.”
Smokin’ in McMinnville should bring a large crowd to the Civic Center this weekend and Gilley Pool will be open extended hours from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. both today and Saturday.
After this Saturday, Gilley Pool will be open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. until Sept. 2.
The last day the pool will be open is Monday, Sept. 3, which is Labor Day. The pool will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Labor Day.
Pool admission is $4 for everyone.
“We have had a great summer attendance wise. I will not know exact figures until after the season closes and I crunch the numbers, but we had high attendance most days,” said Scott. “We are looking forward to more great weekends and hope we will have good weather the remaining times we are open.”
