A man who choked his girlfriend after accusing her of cheating on him has been given 45 days in jail.The defendant, James E. Gilles, 26, entered a guilty plea before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to the charge of aggravated assault and was ordered to serve 45 days of a four-year sentence. He was directed to undergo a drug and alcohol assessment and must enter the batterer program. His time is to be served in addition to time he owes on a separate conviction in General Sessions Court.Gilles’ girlfriend told lawmen he assaulted her after she returned home from eating.
