Law enforcement officers and firefighters were honored by McMinnville’s Noon Exchange Club on Tuesday as the organization conferred its annual honors for excellence in public service.
Rachel Nichols was named Police Officer of the Year. Nichols has served with McMinnville Police Department since coming here from Smyrna in 2012. She is a recent graduate of MTSU and serves as the field training officer and a member of the tactical team.
“She is an excellent officer,” said McMinnville Police Chief Bryan Denton. “When we began to decide police officer of the year, her name kept coming up.”
Capt. Bo Ramsey was named Deputy of the Year. Ramsey is a veteran officer with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, beginning his career as a deputy before working himself up through the ranks of road deputy and now captain.
“He is a role model and he always goes beyond the call of duty,” said Sheriff Jackie Matheny. “He takes service to our community very seriously.”
Martin White was named City Fireman of the Year. He has served with McMinnville Fire Department since 2003.
“He has gone through some very taxing and trying training,” said MFD Capt. Phil Mitchell, noting he also serves as the department’s fire instructor and extrication instructor. “When he’s not working here, he is assistant chief for Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department.”
Chris Helton was named County Fireman of the Year. He is a volunteer with Viola Fire Department.
“When there’s a page that goes out, Chris is the first one to check in,” said Viola Fire Chief Wayne Davenport. “We appreciate all he does for our community.”
The honors for the public servants is one of the pillars of service for the Exchange Club. The Noon Exchange Club of McMinnville is a part of National Exchange, which consists of more than 650 clubs and nearly 20,000 members throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
