Fifth-grade basketball will be a reality this year as an intramural league will be offered at the school system’s three K-5 schools.“The idea behind this is to increase student participation,” said School Board member Jeff Lee, noting there will be an estimated 90 students participating in what will be six intramural teams. The teams will be from Hickory Creek, West, and Bobby Ray with boys and girls teams from each school. All three schools did not formerly offer basketball. Previously, those wanting to play in organized school basketball had to make the 5-6 grade team at WCMS.According to Director of Schools Bobby Cox, the endeavor will cost the school system about $10,000.
