If you’re a persistent drug offender in the city of McMinnville, the badge that gets flashed at you by a police officer may be one you helped buy.“The good thing about this is the drug dealers are paying for our badges,” McMinnville Police Chief Bryan Denton said to members of the McMinnville Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Tuesday night.While the statement brought laughter, it’s true. Denton says the police department used money from its drug fund to purchase the badges.“When someone is convicted of a drug offense, a portion of their fine is placed in the drug fund,” Denton said. “We budget the fund every year.
