Donations are being accepted for anyone wanting to help Boy Scout Sebastian Dodge obtain his dream of being an Eagle Scout.
“If anyone would like to help me with a donation, I would appreciate it,” said Dodge. “I have to get my project complete by Oct. 9. I turn 18. If I don’t have it done, I can’t get it. That’s my deadline.”
An Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Boy Scout can attain. In order to obtain the badge and the title, scouts must plan, develop, raise funds for, and lead others in implementing a service project that will benefit any religious institution, school, or the community in general. The service project is a culmination of everything a scout has learned during his time in the program.
Dodge’s project is to build a bridge along River Trail East, a new walking trail being established along the Barren Fork River from Sally’s Alley to Rocket Park. The bridge will cover a ravine as a connector of the two trails and be used by individuals enjoying a stroll along the trail, as well as strong enough to handle a small utility vehicle that would be used for trail maintenance.
Dodge is working with engineer Scott St. John, who has agreed to work with him to design and organize the project in order to make sure the bridge is constructed correctly. Wally Bigbee, Friends of the Greenway president, will oversee the project.
Donations can be sent to 387 Old Bildad Road; Smithville, TN; 37166. Make checks payable to Sebastian Dodge and for Eagle Scout Project.
