Zombies have returned to Cumberland Caverns. After nine years away, they will undoubtedly be hungry for human flesh. The feasting begins Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. and continues every Friday and Saturday night throughout October.
“The zombies are back,” said Cumberland Caverns general manger Robby Black. “This was a last-minute decision for us. We had a group of individuals contact us with a desire to host a Cave of the Dead. After some discussion, I decided to give it a try.”
Cave of the Dead drew its last breath in 2006. At that time, the decision was made to pull the plug after the second year.
Black says the zombies are back with a thirst for more.
“If you like to be scared, you’ll like it,” said Black. “What the guys are doing is unique and different. They are making a lot of their own masks and costumes. I think it’s going to be better than before. It’s going to be a good time, if you survive it.”
Cave of the Dead: A Haunted Caving Adventure will be offered Oct. 9-10, Oct. 16-17, Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 30-31 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Mankind will get a little lower on the food chain during those hours.
Tours will be leaving about every 45 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15 or online at www.cumberlandcaverns.com for $12. Due to the graphic and scary nature of the show, no children under 12 will be admitted.
