A couple could face more than a decade behind bars for allegedly hitting a man over the head and robbing him of over $1,000.
The suspects, Brian Floyd Ballew, 33, and Teri Coppinger, 30, are both charged with robbery, a charge which carries eight to 12 years in prison should they be convicted. They will face hearing on the felony charge Sept. 30.
Their charges come for an incident that happened at their home on Solomon Street in the Campaign community on the night of Aug. 27.
According to the victim, he was taken to Spencer by the couple and another woman and then they returned to Campaign. The male victim said he walked into the couple’s home and was hit from behind.
"He was hit in the back of the head and fell down and was hit several more times," said sheriff’s investigator Kevin Murphy, noting as a piece of evidence Ballew cut his hand while assaulting the victim.
While he was down, the victim said Ballew helped himself to his wallet.
"While he was on the floor, Mr. Ballew reached into his pocket and removed the victim’s wallet," Murphy said.
The victim told investigators his wallet contained $1,000 in cash and a $100 money order.
