Monday’s meeting of McMinnville’s Board of Zoning Appeals was reminiscent of a courtroom battle as members met to consider allowing a 300-square-foot digital billboard by Roland Advertising. With a court reporter present and exhibits presented, the business had its sign dreams dashed unanimously by committee members David Marttala, Jim Brock, Roy Pierce and Tom Ward. Jerry Williamson was at the meeting, but he abstained from the vote.Roland Advertising requested the committee allow a variance of 225 feet for a sign to be placed on the corner of Walker Street and North Chancery Street. Being zoned C2, current city code does not allow the sign to be larger than 75 square feet.Speaking on behalf of Roland Advertising was attorney Mark Tribble.
