McMinnville officials have agreed to try something different when it comes to battling mosquitoes. A combined effort will include above ground, in water, and education efforts.Street and Sanitation Committee members Junior Medley and Jimmy Haley voted unanimously to spend $13,364 to once again begin mosquito control efforts within the city. Alderman Clair Cochran was absent.The funds will buy a mosquito mister machine for $8,500, chemicals totaling $4,015 to use in the mister, and buy pellets totaling $849 to use in standing water to kill mosquito larva.The decision came after a presentation by Public Works assistant director Brad Hennessee.“I think the area where we have not done as good a job as we could have done is the education of the public,” he said.
