City officials to discuss nonprofit requests

McMinnville officials will be considering $428,571 in nonprofit donation requests for fiscal year 2015-16.
Last year, the city donated $228,932 to 15 different nonprofit organizations. This year, 20 donation requests have been received.
Funded last year were: Sister Cities $5,000; Main Street McMinnville $40,000; Families in Crisis $5,000; BRAC $7,750; Chamber/ Tourism $45,000; Meals on Wheels $5,000; Senior Center $12,500; Food Bank $3,000; Magness Library $48,000; Heritage Alliance $500; Rescue Squad $6,103; and Industrial Development Board $40,000.
The state requires the city to make donations of $5,500 to Chamber of Commerce for dues, $2,721 to Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency for dues, and $2,858 to the Upper Cumberland Development District.
Not funded last year but asking the city for consideration this year are Caring Hearts United, The Eagle Fund, Young Men United, and Kids of the Community. Asking for additional consideration outside what the state requires is Upper Cumberland Development District.

Caring Hearts United works with seven hospice units that service Warren County and surrounding areas. The donation will go to pay rent and utilities for its office and expenditures to service hospice patients and care baskets.
The Eagle Fund was organized to restore and maintain the oldest house in McMinnville, The Black House. A donation would go for general repair and upkeep of the home and the surrounding structures on the property.
Young Men United is an organization that began in 1998. The city’s donation would go toward computers and projections for training, TVs for movie nights, school supplies for students, and a copier for brochures and flyers.
Kids of the Community was founded in 2000 and the chartered in 2002 by Warren County Juvenile Court. The program serves as a group mentoring program for at-risk youth. The city’s donation would go to pay utilities for its facility and the $500 pool rental for its back to school bash.
UCHRA is requested an additional $1,500 as a match for various other programs within the organization.
No date has been scheduled for the city’s Finance Committee to review the requests.
