City has new parks and rec director

McMinnville now has a new Parks and Recreation director. Scott McCord, of Peachtree City, Ga., took over operation of the department Monday.McCord will fill the vacancy left open when longtime director Carlene Brown took a retirement buyout in September 2010.McCord has a B.S. from Georgia State University in Atlanta and has more than 17 years experience in parks and recreation and over 10 years experience in facility management.He has served as an athletics program coordinator and is a certified pool operator.McCord found out about the position online. He will be supervising 12 full- and part-time employees, as well as a number of seasonal employees during the summer.He says his goals are to provide a well-run recreational facility for McMinnville and Warren County, to increase the available programs, and to offer a wide range of activities to residents from kids to the elderly.“I think increasing the programming for all ages should be our main goal right now,” McCord said.
