City goes against legal advice, votes to buy cars locally

McMinnville officials went against legal advice Tuesday night in making a decision to recommend paying $621 more for three police vehicles in an effort to buy local. The city accepted bids on three police interceptor sedans for its police department and received four bids ranging from $84,156 to $71,061, with the lowest bid coming from Ford of Murfreesboro.According to McMinnville Police Chief Bryan Denton, all the dealerships met the specifications asked by the city and Ford of Murfeesboro added something extra.“Indications are they are all bidding on the same car,” said Denton. “Ford of Murfreesboro meets all the specs and exceeds with an added emergency light preparation package.”Alderman Rick Barnes stated, “I make a motion we buy them from Kidd Ford.”Kidd Ford submitted a bid of $71,682, a $621 increase over Ford of Murfreesboro.
