City administrator David Rutherford has been saved from the chopping block and given a raise. His contract was unanimously renewed Tuesday night with changes that could deter a future board from terminating him. Among changes in Rutherford’s new contract is a salary increase from $98,820 to $116,000, the number of votes on the board needed to fire him from four to five, and an increase in his severance package for a new board which might choose to terminate him prior to his evaluation in October. The contract was accepted without discussion by Mayor Norman Rone, Vice Mayor Everett Brock and Aldermen Jimmy Haley, Billy Wood and Clair Cochran.
