Central Church of Christ held its popular Friends and Neighbors free lunch for the community Tuesday. Gary McDade has been preaching during a gospel meeting being held at Central on the book of Revelation and spoke to the crowd during the lunch.
McDade was asked to speak on a motivational topic and said he wanted to remind people how valuable their souls are. He said two things of value to us that have a relationship to one another is our soul and the sacrifice of Christ.
“We learn our soul is worth more than the whole world in Matthew 16:26 which says ‘For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?’” said McDade.
“The value of our soul is something that is so taken for granted and devalued that most people don’t have an appreciation for their own soul. The most valuable asset we personally have is our soul. It is as valuable as the blood of Jesus Christ who tasted death for every man,” said McDade.
“My grandfather told me when I was a boy, ‘Son, get an education then you’ll have something no one can take away from you.’ I’m always trying to learn and educate and grow. But, it doesn’t matter if you just graduated from Yale or if you just got out of jail, Christ died for us and our soul is valuable,” he said. “Remember Jesus died for us because he saw our value and the value of our souls.”
Ladies of the congregation prepared tuna casserole, fruit and cottage cheese salad, carrots, green beans, rolls, drinks and a multitude of delicious desserts that were enjoyed by several people including many who work downtown close to the church.
McDade’s last lesson covering the final chapters in the book of Revelation will begin tonight at Central Church of Christ located at 101 E. Morford Street at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. The lessons are broadcast live on local public radio WCPI 91.3.
