Auto burglars are taking advantage of targets of opportunity, according to police officers, who are warning local residents to lock their car doors.
“Always lock your car door when you step away, and that goes especially in the evening,” said McMinnville police investigator Todd Rowland who is working a series of auto burglaries around the city. “There are burglars who will go around trying doors until they find one open and then they take what they want.”
The warning comes after four vehicles were burglarized in the Brook Hollow subdivision last week. About $2,000 worth of merchandise was taken in four thefts. Items like CDs, a medical bag and a weed eater were taken. Police believe it was the work of the same burglar or burglars.
“The one thing all four of the vehicles had in common was that they were left unlocked,” Rowland said, noting police have some good leads. “If I could offer just one piece of advice to the public, it would be lock your car doors.”
