A man has entered not-guilty pleas to vehicular assault charges for a wreck that nearly killed his passenger. The alleged drunk driver, Matthew W. Burrows, 25, entered not-guilty pleas before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to charges of vehicular assault and DUI and was given a March 27 trial date. His charges come one year after the crash, on Dec. 22, 2011, that critically injured his passenger Tyler Young, 32. Young was treated at Erlanger while Burrows was treated and released from River Park Hospital.According to Highway Patrolman Donnie Clark, the wreck happened during the early evening hours on Old Shelbyville Road near the Poss Road intersection, which is just before Laws Road, the road where Pistole Park is located.“The driver lost control while negotiating a curve,” said Clark, noting it was raining at the time and the road was wet. After losing control, the 1990 Toyota 4-Runner ran off the road, onto the shoulder and through a ditch causing it to roll once, ejecting both men as it rolled. The vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the road with its wheels in the air. There was alcohol found at the scene leading to lawmen to investigate suspicion the driver was under the influence at the time of the wreck.
