Brock named interim city administrator

McMinnville Public Works director Bill Brock was named interim city administrator Tuesday night by a 6-0 vote after more than an hour of discussing the topic. Alderman Ken Smith was absent.

Brock takes over a job that's been held by McMinnville Mayor Jimmy Haley for about 11 months.

Before Haley was given the interim city administrator job, it was suggested Brock fill the role. That idea never gained traction and Brock lost a bid to get the job on a full-time basis after the interview process broke down.

Said Brock, "If you will trust me, I will show you what I can do. I will show you what a city administrator should do."

Brock will look to provide a sense of stability to a city board that's been struggling to find a sense of cooperation in recent months. It hasn't been a good fit for Mayor Haley to also fill the role of city administrator.

Alderman Jimmy Bonner was initially going to vote against Brock. However, he changed his mind during discussion.

"Bill, you have asked us to trust you and I'm going to do that. I'm going to vote in favor," said Bonner.

The ordinance still has to pass one more vote.
