Lawmen are treating the discovery of a body in the Collins River on Sunday afternoon as a homicide“There wasn’t an identification on the man and he had likely been partly in the water for a few days so that’s made identification harder,” said Sheriff Jackie Matheny of the ongoing investigation. “For right now we’re treating this as a homicide while we wait for autopsy results.”The man is believed to be a resident from neighboring Coffee County but had close ties in Warren County. The body of the man was found by fishermen who were fishing along the banks of the Collins River which runs behind the Red Road area near Charles Creek.“He was part on the bank and part on the water,” Matheny said, noting investigators are not ruling anything out although the water in the area is not believed to be very deep. “From the looks of things we believe he had been there a few days.”
