Womack Printing looked to improve its winning ways Tuesday night as it faced Moose Lodge in a battle of two top teams in boys 6-8 tournament action. Womack Printing used a 15-run outburst in the game to come away with a convincing 15-2 victory.
Jr. Mares led the hit parade for Womack Printing as he went 4-for-4 with four singles. Braxton Gibbs, Jaxon Rhea, John Gillespie, Kylan Jones, Cash Clayton and Corban Felton all tallied three hits apiece. Clayton had one of the biggest hits of the night with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning.
Jacob Holt led Moose Lodge in the hitting column, going 2-for-2. Andrew Key hit a solo home run and Aaron Tallent added the only other RBI in the contest.
Clayton got the scoring going in the top of the first as he blasted a three-run inside-the-park home run, 3-0. Later in the top half of the inning, Womack Printing added another run courtesy of Gibbs’ RBI double, 4-0.
Moose Lodge went down in order in the bottom of the inning, failing to cut into the Womack Printing lead.
After Womack Printing stretched its lead to five in the top of the second, 5-0, Moose Lodge finally got on the board thanks to Tallent’s RBI single to the outfield, keeping it a close game, 5-1, after two.
Womack Printing scored the only run in the third and added five more runs in the top half of the fourth to extend its lead to 11-1 heading into the bottom of the inning.
Key’s solo shot to lead off the bottom of the inning was the only run Moose Lodge managed to score as it continued to trail by a large margin, 11-2, after four.
Womack Printing put the game away for good in the top of the fifth as it scored four runs, 15-2, sending it to the championship game that will be held at Hoover and Millraney Field on Friday night.
