The Southern Standard partners with R3 Logistics and Mud Bums Family Sports Grill to honor a Pioneer of the Week throughout the year. Our honoree from April 7-13 is WCMS softball catcher and slugger Kaydence Wiser.
Kaydence Wiser is the living embodiment of the saying, "great things can come is small packages." Wiser is never the biggest player when she walks on the diamond, but nobody outworks the Lady Pioneer slugger and star catcher.
Wiser put together a splendid run of performance for WCMS last week, highlighted by her first career home run as the Lady Pioneers defeated DeKalb County 10-9 on the road. Wiser finished the week hitting over .500 in three games, which included matchups against top area programs Oakland and Coffee County.
With four hits in last week's three contests, including a big fly where the righty muscled a ball out the opposite way against the Saints, Wiser has now extended her hitting streak to 11 games. Her batting average for the season has also climbed to .485.
Wiser isn't the traditional catcher when she reaches the base paths. Other teams usually opt for a courtesy runner for their backstops, but Wiser flashes her speed for the Lady Pioneers as she's swiped five bases and scored 16 times.
Behind the plate, she's thrown out five runners this year, including one in each game against Oakland and Coffee County.
