The ending seemed to be inevitable. Dibrell was always destined to dominate.

The Wildcats concluded back-to-back perfect seasons in 7-8 grade elementary basketball Saturday night, demolishing Morrison 61-29 for their 34th straight victory.

Tournament MVP Jeremy Boren scored a game-high 19 points and all-tournament selection Nathan Elrod added 17 as Dibrell made quick work of the Eagles in the championship game at Charlie Dalton Gym.

“I’m really happy for my guys. They’ve been working hard since back in the summer for this,” said Dibrell coach Dustin Curtis. “We’re going to enjoy this one, but we have to get back to work. We want to bring a state championship back to Warren County in January.”

It was Curtis’ birthday Saturday night and his lone wish was to hoist another trophy. His team made sure of it by halftime.

The Wildcats carried an 11-6 edge into the second quarter, but it would grow to double figures by the time the team made it to the locker rooms.

Dibrell caught fire in the second quarter, at one point scoring on nine straight offensive possessions to open a big lead.

Drathan Dixon sparked the big run with a wing 3-pointer, while Boren followed shortly after by draining another 3-pointer from the corner.

Elrod got in the act later, scoring on two run-out layups following steals to help Dibrell build a 31-21 halftime advantage.

Morrison, which had played in a holiday tournament earlier in the afternoon, never seemed to get its legs back after the break.

The Eagles were held to five points in the third quarter – all from Kayden Coates. The team’s lone points in the final period came on an Ethan Hall 3-pointer.

On the other side, Dibrell sent waves of scorers at the Eagles. Boren scored 10 points in the second half, showing off his touch from midrange while also muscling inside for layups. Elrod and Young added the exclamation points in the fourth, draining 3-pointers in quick succession as the lead swelled to 30.

Traice Crosby got the final basket, going coast-to-cost for a layup before the final buzzer started a Wildcat celebration.

Dixon and Young were also named all-tournament after scoring 10 and 8 points, respectively. Johnnie Fults added five.

Coates led the Eagles with eight points. Ty Morton added seven, followed by Caylon Driver with six, Connor Farmer and Hall with three each and Will Davis with two. Coates and Driver represented Morrison on the all-tournament team.

Other all-tournament members include Thomas Burks (Boyd), Justus Majors and Kendall Patrick (Eastside), Ashton Griffith and Baler Melton (Centertown) and Abram Stinson (Irving College).
