The 7-8 grade Dibrell Wildcats are no stranger to undefeated seasons, so it isn’t shocking the Wildcats lead the Warren County elementary league with an 8-0 record. The current set of Wildcats have won the last three elementary championships dating back to their time in 5-6 grade and the team showed little signs of slowing down against Centertown Monday night.Behind 21 points from Christian Wilkinson and 14 points from Trey Cantrell, the Wildcats defeated the Warriors 54-39.Wilkinson and Cantrell were a big reason why Dibrell took a 30-13 lead into halftime. The highest scoring duo in the league poured in 21 points in the first half, including Cantrell scoring 12 of his 14 points in the first two quarters.Cantrell hit two 3-pointers for half his points, while Wilkinson got to the rim at will against the Warrior defense. With Austin Melton adding a 3-pointer and Malachi Barrett, Dillon Bennett and Ethan Green scoring one basket apiece, the Wildcats led by 17 at halftime.Behind six third-quarter points from Sam Deason and 3-pointers from Skylar Thomas and Brandon Steg, Centertown was able to cut the lead to 39-29 entering the fourth quarter.Wilkinson put the game away in the fourth by scoring seven points, including a back-breaking 3-pointer midway through the final period to put the game out of reach for the Warriors.Wilkinson’s 21 points were a game high and vaulted the eighth-grader in the scoring lead in the elementary league.
