The WCMS football team went up against the Franklin North Gators on Tuesday night at Nunley Stadium looking to continue the momentum of last week’s 24-8 home victory over Mt. Juliet.
The Pioneers were without one of their leaders on defense, Kaden Jordan, who was out with a concussion but it didn’t faze the Pioneers against the Gators.
The Pioneers used the rushing attack of C.J. Taylor, Xander Lee and Ryland Holder to cruise to a 38-6 victory to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Taylor gave the Pioneers momentum early with an interception on Franklin North’s second possession, giving Warren County prime field position.
On their own 49, Taylor took the ball and weaved through the Gators defense, on his way to a 51-yard touchdown to give the Pioneers the lead, 6-0, with just over a minute left in the first quarter. The two-point conversion was no good.
After a Gators three-and-out, the Pioneers had favorable field position on the Gators side of the field.
The Pioneers got down to the Gators 15-yard line and Taylor did the rest as he broke away from the Gator defense to extend the Pioneer lead to double-digits, 12-0. This time the two-point conversion was good, 14-0.
Just before halftime, after another Gators three-and-out, Ryland Holder took the ball in for the Pioneers from a few yards out to give them a 20-point lead. The two-point conversion was good for a 22-0 lead.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Gators took the ball at their own 40 and ran the ball back for a touchdown, to cut into the Pioneers lead to 22-6 at the half.
With six minutes left in the third, Xander Lee gave the Pioneers a 22-point lead as he took the ball and scampered from 28 yards out to extend the Pioneer lead, 28-6.
Lee made the two-point conversion and the Pioneers continued their dominance, 30-6.
The Gators didn’t get on the board the rest of the way as the Pioneers continued to play solid defense and Lee added another TD late in the game with another successful two-point conversion and the Pioneers prevailed, 38-6.
The Pioneers will be back in action this Tuesday as they face Franklin South at Nunley Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
