WCMS soccer has found early success in the 2020 season. The Pioneers beat Prescott South 3-1 Monday, following up last Friday’s 1-1 tie against DeKalb County.

Hugo Balderas scored two goals in Monday’s victory, while Kosuke Nojiri had one goal for the Pioneers in their first win. It was a big one for Warren County as Prescott South from Cookeville has always presented a tough challenge on the pitch.

Warren County (1-0-1) is in its second year under coach Alex Cordova. After weeks of rain and cold, the head man was curious how his Pioneers would respond when games began. Thus far, the Pioneers have been stout.

The defense has limited opportunities in both matchups, playing well enough to keep the team unbeaten. The offense picked up Monday after having a tough time scoring against DeKalb County last week.

Brodie Cowans had the equalizer against DeKalb County, helping the Pioneers salvage a tie in its home opener.

Weather permitting, Warren County will try to keep its unbeaten record intact Thursday at home. The Pioneers are scheduled to play Coffee County at 5 p.m.
