The West was not the best on Wednesday night.
The Warren County Middle School soccer team played host to Westwood from Manchester, not the neighborhood across the bridge from downtown McMinnville.
It was often a physical battle with Westwood making a lot of contact and trying to rattle WCMS. The Lady Pioneers responded with force and shut out Westwood, 7-0.
The Lady Pioneers dominated early and the score at halftime was 5-0. Westwood’s defense couldn’t hold back the Lady Pioneer offense, which struck early and often.
WCMS coach Lyndi Pack said, “I think the girls played really well overall. I was proud of how they strung together passes, and how they worked together as a team. They made an opening quick goal, and after that, they continued to capitalize on their opportunities. Defen-sively, I think they did a great job, worked well together. They kept the ball out of the back of the net. And Callie Jo Roberts did her job.”
The WCMS girls soccer team evened its record at 2-2. The next match for the Lady Pioneers is at Franklin North in Decherd on Sept. 1, at 5:30 p.m.
