WCMS prevails over Algood
WCMS Pioneer Daniel Cruz might be called for high WEB
WCMS Pioneer Daniel Cruz might be called for aggressive play here during Mondays home game against Algoods Redskins. There was no foul on the play.
Lightning struck twice at Nunley Stadium on Monday as the WCMS Pioneer soccer team downed another tough team, 2-1, going undefeated on the preseason heading into Friday’s matchup with its arch nemesis, Harris Middle. The Pioneers struck early as they found their way into Redskin territory several times and John Jackson found the right corner off the inside post, 1-0.Going much of the first half controlling the game’s tempo, the Pioneers relaxed a little just before the half and Algood put one past keeper Jahier Martinez to tie it up, 1-1, going into the break.Resuming play, Algood tested the Pioneer defense several times with no success until WCMS had enough and decided to end it, much like it began as a Jackson breakaway led to him firing a bullet to the left side of the keeper that couldn’t be stopped. It proved to be the winning goal.“We had a lot of shots and it was a good, hard game,” said Warren County Middle School coach Matt Jackson. “Algood is a really good team, but that’s what we wanted when we scheduled this, to be ready for Harris Middle.
