Longtime WCHS girls soccer coach Todd Willmore has taken over the WCMS girls soccer program and is eager to get back to winning.
Willmore had his first game for WCMS on Tuesday and he did not disappoint whatsoever with a 6-0 Lady Pioneer victory.
WCMS opened up its firework-filled night with a varsity game against the DeKalb Middle Lady Saints. The Lady Pioneers did nothing short of taking DeKalb Middle to the woodshed as they captured an emphatic victory.
The Lady Pioneers opened up their scoring barrage with a goal only 10 minutes into the contest. That would be nowhere near the end of their attack as Chloe Wanamaker scored 7 minutes later putting DeKalb Middle against the ropes.
The knockout punch was thrown early as the Lady Pioneers scored a third goal just 6 minutes apart from the second goal. Coming out of the locker room they were still fired up by scoring another goal, the second of the night from Brooke Kelsey.
WCMS scored 2 more goals in garbage time and took home a nice 6-0 victory in the season opener.
On a night where the varsity squad won by 6, the JV squad captured a good win themselves.
Matched up against DeKalb Middle’s JV team, WCMS put up 4 goals of its own in a 4-1 win.
WC started out with 2 quick goals that gave them a comfortable lead. DeKalb Middle finally got on the board with a goal late in the first. WCMS took the locker room with a 2-1 lead knowing they had to keep scoring and that’s exactly what they did.
Emme Reed put the Lady Pioneers lead back up by 2 with a goal right out of the gate. The Lady Pioneers scored yet another goal giving them a 4-1 win, outscoring DeKalb Middle by a total of 10-1 in varsity and JV action.
The Lady Pioneers play again this Friday at home against Tullahoma with a start time of 6 p.m. WCMS plays its home games at the high school.
