It wasn't perfect weather for the start of the golf season, but it was the perfect outcome for the WCMS Pioneers. The Warren County boys started their season with a home win Monday, defeating White County 223-226 in a nine-hole competition at McMinnville Country Club.
The Lady Pioneers just missed making it a clean sweep, falling 111-114.
I thought both the boys and girls teams played hard, especially in the harsh conditions," said new coach Brian Ferguson. "I was very proud of the girls to hang around with just one girl with match experience. And for the boys to pull out a victory without having the low round, (I think) that just shows how well rounded and deep we are."
Aden Johnson led the Pioneers with a round of 53, followed by Sawyer Caten and Connor Cook at 56. Grayson Potter rounded out the team score for the Pioneers with a round of 58. Brayden Cunningham (62) also represented the WCMS boys as each match allows teams to play five players and use the best four scores.
On the girls side, Gabbi Molloy (56) and Lucy Mullican (58) were just shy of picking up the win over White County. Kryslyn Cantrell fired 62 for the Lady Pioneers in the first match.
Warren County will return to the links Thursday in Sparta for another matchup with White County.
