WCMS golf teams off to good start

Last year’s Warren County Middle School golf season ended with the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers taking a dip in the pond at McMinnville Country Club after winning a pair of Central Tennessee Conference championships.This year could end the same way if the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers keep their current pace.The Pioneers have begun the season 4-1, while the Lady Pioneers are currently a perfect 5-0.The Warren County Middle School golf teams opened the season April 2 with a road contest at Willowbrook Golf Course against Coffee County and Manchester Westwood.In a match where the top four scores make up a team total, the Pioneers shot 178 to defeat Coffee County, which shot 260. Westwood only had three players compete and had to forfeit the match.Leading the way for Warren County was Bracton Womack, who shot 42 to post the lowest nine-hole round of any boy at the competition. Liam Brock was one stroke behind at 43, while Grant Walker fired 46 and Jack Wood shot 47.In the girls match, which takes only two individual scores, the Lady Pioneers won with 96, narrowly edging Coffee County’s 99.
