Franklin County South made a floor-length pass and layup at the buzzer to stun the WCMS varsity girls Monday night in McMinnville, 45-44.The winning layup capped a furious Franklin South comeback that saw bodies flying in what turned out to be a brutally physical final quarter of play. The Lady Pioneers appeared to have the game locked away when they were fouled with 2.4 seconds left and clinging to a 44-43 lead. Even if WCMS missed the free throw, it appeared Franklin South would not have time to advance the ball the length of the court for a shot. But that’s exactly what happened when WCMS missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Franklin South chased down the rebound. In the hectic confusion of the final seconds, the Lady Pioneers didn’t realize a player had slipped behind the defense.
