Even in the midst of the merrymaking holiday festivity, there was still a basketball game for fans to attend. The Warren County Middle School Lady Pioneers opened up the Masonic Lodge Tournament Monday at noon facing off against the Rhea County Lady Eagles.Coming off the break to the hardwood, the Pioneers just couldn’t stuff these birds as Rhea County took home the first round road win, 32-16.“We have to continue to work and play as a team,” said Warren County head coach Isaiah Phillips.Jumping to a 16-6 halftime lead, Rhea County had the Lady Pioneers looking for ways to circumvent the defense as the Lady Eagles took advantage of several forced turnovers. Shooting from the charity stripe, Rhea County was 6-of-6 while Warren County shot 6-of-16.Leading the Lady Pioneer offense was Madalyn Stubblefield with 6 points followed closely by Nautica Brown who hit for 4 points.Rhea County’s Jace Stone broke double digits with 15 game-high points for the Lady Eagles.Also scoring for the Lady Pioneers were Katie Toney with 3 points, Ebonie Ross, 2, and Marli McBride hit for 1 point.The Lady Pioneers played North at 5 p.m. Tuesday to see how they would place in the tournament.
