Christian Wilkinson did all he could to keep the Warren County Middle School football team in the game against Coffee County, but in the end he came up one yard short.Wilkinson was tackled one yard short of picking up a first down on the Pioneers’ final drive as Warren County fell to the Red Raiders 24-20 Tuesday in Coffee County.Wilkinson threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 51 more yards, but his final scramble couldn’t keep the Pioneers in the game.Warren County took over on offense with 1:31 left in the game in its own territory trailing 24-20. After two incompletions and a sack, the Pioneers faced a fourth-and-19 with the game on the line.Wilkinson, who had torched the Coffee County defense all game, was forced out of the pocket and tried to run for the first down to extend the drive.Wilkinson was taken down right in front the first-down marker, coming up with 18 yards on his last-ditch effort. It was typical of the day for the Pioneers as the team tried to overcome miscues all afternoon.The Pioneers took the opening kickoff and drove deep into Coffee County territory, helped by Wilkinson hitting Evan Reynolds on the first play of the game for 49 yards and later connecting with Darius Wright for 31 yards.Wilkinson couldn’t quite get the ball in the endzone though.
