Bats and brooms. The Pioneers seem to be good with both.
The Warren County High School baseball team swept away Stone Memorial Tuesday night in dominating fashion, winning 13-0 at Patrick Ramsey Field. The victory followed a 14-0 thumping Monday, helping the Pioneers stay atop the District 6AAA standings.
Warren County (13-15) can assure itself the regular-season district title with a sweep of White County next week. The Pioneers are currently 5-1 in district play, while Cookeville and White County are both 4-2.
Senior Dylan Ward continued his splendid season on the bump, throwing a two-hit shutout to earn the victory. Ward struck out three and retired the last 10 batters he faced. Ward now sports a 2.14 ERA in district games thanks to a pair of shutouts.
The Pioneers were able to pile up runs despite recording just five hits. Stone Memorial aided the cause with five errors while Warren County also drew seven walks.
Ben Rivers and Ryland Holder finished with one hit and two RBIs apiece, while Trace Adcock, Hunter Adams and Braden Bottoms had with one hit each. Ethan Smith scored three times after three walks, one of which came with the bases loaded. Brooks Helton, Ty Martin, Omari Harris and Will Cantrell each had one RBI.
Weather permitting, the Pioneers will play Coffee County at home Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
